God of mercy,
as we begin the season of Lent today,
we put on ashes to remember our sins
and turn to you for forgiveness.
During these forty days
help us to pray more
and to keep our promises to make sacrifices
and to share with those in need.
Help us not to think so much about ourselves
but about others and you.
And bless this food we share.
